Dublin Discovery Trails is here to guide you on a journey of discovery to some of the Cityâs most loved sites and attractions, enabling you to uncover compelling stories of Dublinâs culture, heritage and history via themed GPS-enabled walking trails.

Over the coming months, several exciting routes will be added to the Dublin Discovery Trails app, the first of which is âDoors Into Docklandsâ - brought to you by Dublin City Council and Fáilte Ireland.
DOORS INTO DOCKLANDS TRAIL
The first trail available for you to explore is âDoors Into Docklandsâ; an engaging and exciting way to explore the Cityâs Docklands area, find out more about Dublinâs maritime history, visit famous landmarks and heritage sites, uncover hidden wonders, and experience impressive virtual content. Youâll discover:
- Impressive 3D Augmented Reality portals that transport you back in time, immersing you in historical scenes and shocking events from the Docklandsâ past
- The Famine Memorial as never seen before; brought to life in thought-provoking AR
- Stunning 2D animations showcasing some of Dublin Docklands incredible feats of engineering
- Live actor Augmented Reality characters based on real historical Dubliners, telling fascinating stories of what it was like to live and work at the Docklands throughout history
- Opportunities to visit the Custom House Visitor Centre, Jeanie Johnston Tall Ship, The Diving Bell (Irelandâs smallest museum) and more incredible venues
- The âvoice of the River Liffeyâ telling extraordinary tales from the Docklandsâ past
- Image and text information at each point of interest on the trail
The âDoors Into Docklandsâ trail has three options to explore; the main route (3.75km), an extended route (4.75km) and an accessible extended route (5km).

Poets, playwrights, authors and balladeers have drawn endless inspiration from our capitalâs streets, stories and characters - whether entranced by the Grand Canalâs tranquillity, or energised by tall tales told in city pubs; wordsmiths have always penned poems, ballads and novels about Dublin.

The app can be downloaded via WiFi or data connection - there is no need for a live data connection while using the app, as everything is stored on your phone after the initial content download. This means you wonât be charged for expensive data roaming.
