Shree Shantinath was the sixteenth Jain tirthankar of the present age (Avasarpini). Shree Shantinath was born to King Visvasen and Queen Achira at Hastinapur in the Ikshvaku dynasty. His birth date is the thirteenth day of the Jyest Krishna month of the Indian calendar. He was also a Chakravartin and a Kamadeva. He ascended to throne when he was 25 years old. After over 25,000 years at the throne, he became a Jain monk and started his penance. According to Jain beliefs, he became a siddha, a liberated soul which has destroyed all of its karma. Jainism is an ancient Indian religion that teaches the spiritual purity and enlightenment through disciplined nonviolence to all living creatures. The aim of Jain life is to achieve liberation of the soul.Chalisa is a spiritual form of a prayer in Jainism, in which there are forty verses in praise of the Great GOD. Chalisa of different deities are very popular among devotees and it is believed that a common man can get the blessings of his deity (God) by reciting the Chalisa with devotion.Tirthankaras are the saviour and spiritual teacher of the Jain dharma. Tirthankara in Sanskrit means "Ford-maker" and also known as Jina that is "Victor". According to Jain scripture, a Tirthankara is a rare individual who has conquered the samsara, the cycle of death and rebirth, on their own and made a path for others to follow.They are also called Arihantas, Jinas, Kevalis, and Vitrage. Arihant means "destroyer of inner enemies," Jina means "victor of inner enemies," and vitrage means "one who does not have any more attachment or hatred towards anyone." They are called Kalyanak (auspicious events). They are:1. Chyavana Kalyanak: This is the event when the Tirthankar's soul departs from its last life, and is conceived in the mothers womb.2. Janma Kalyanak: This is the event when the Tirthankar's soul is born.3. Diksha Kalyanak: This is the event when the Tirthankar's soul gives up all his/her worldly possessions and becomes a monk/nun.
