GSW ConnectBot from Georgia SoftWorks is a simple to use but powerful Secure Shell (SSH) client designed for use in demanding industrial environments and tested on a variety of scanner guns and versions of Android. Based on the proven and familiar user interface of the original ConnectBot the GSW ConnectBot is the most cryptographically secure, commercially supported SSH client for Android on par only with the Georgia SoftWorks SSH Clients for Windows.
The Secure Shell Version 2 (SSH-2) P rotocol is a network communications protocol allowing for secure remote login and other secure network services over an insecure network. The security provided by SSH is not unconditional as an assumption is being made that the algorithms used are not broken and cannot be broken by brute force attacks. The three SSH-2 founding documents of SSH (RFC 4252, RFC 4253, and RFC 4254) were published about eleven years ago and employed the most secure and peer reviewed algorithms known AT THAT TIME. Unfortunately, thanks to significant increase in computer power and advances in cryptography majority of the originally used SSH-2 algorithms are no longer secure. They were replaced by new ones described in more recent RFCs. For this reason not all SSH-2 products and implementations are equally secure, some of them still use only the initial algorithms referenced in RFC 4252. These 12-year-old solutions, once state-of-the-art, are simply outdated, dangerous to use and unfit for commercial deployment. Nothing can replace due diligence and software updates. This is why the GSW ConnectBot shines - we study current literature and discussions of cryptography to keep our software constantly updated and thus ensure that our customers are not using a cryptographic algorithm that has a recently found vulnerability or weakness.
Features
Runs multiple SSH sessions at the same time
Sessions are persisted when user temporarily switches to another Android app
Compatible with a wide variety of hosts
Allows for an administrator to preconfigure host shortcuts and then launch the software in screen lockout mode as required in most work environments
Compatible with display of columnar data and frames (for example FAR - file and archive manager for MS Windows)
Configurable ANSWERBACK
Configurable screen size (number of rows and columns)
Compatible with function keys and meta keys available in Hacker's Keyboard. All combinations of function keys and SHIFT, CTRL, and ALT keys are supported, including multiple meta keys, for example SHIFT-ALT-F9. Very important for interoparability with SSH servers running under MS Windows
Stay Connected feature
Application Lockout for production environments
Configuration/Settings Lockout for production environments
Device properties are conveniently passed to server through environment variables and are available in your logon scripts when used in conjunction with Georgia SoftWorks SSH or Telnet Server
Mouse/touch events are passed to the server
Automatic Logon when used in conjunction with Georgia SoftWorks SSH or Telnet server.
Corporate and Mass Deployment Features
Support for the Georgia SoftWorks License and Update Server to allow for centralized management of multiple devices, in particular:
easy network licensing easy updates from intranet save/transfer/restore of device's configuration configuration/settings cloning to new devices
Internet access is not needed for any of the above management capabilities and there is NO NEED to install agent software of any kind or give BIND_DEVICE_ADMIN permission. In other words security of your device is not handed out to a third party app.
Additionally, we provide capability to check for updates and/or update app from a 3rd party url. Intended for software deployed in environments without internet connectivity provided for Android devices. Now it is possible to host updates on your company's intranet even if the Georgia SoftWorks License and Update Server is not installed.... Read more
